Carrie, you're famous! You made it to an article on Luke Ford's site:

http://www.setgo.com/article.html?id=8e68c...aba52babfa470bd

Considering Duck's brand of "journalism" consists of cutting and pasting what others have said, he has made just about anyone who's ever posted on an adult message board has had to deal with the stigma of being "famous" on his site.

Yup. It's not the first time he's cut and pasted me (without permission, btw), it probably won't be the last.

BTW, Larry has a patent-pending application.. it has not been approved...he just has it filed. And his patent doesn't do any "age verifying" it's more using the E-signatures act to protect webmasters from minors who perjure themselves to lie about their birthdate.

Budweiser.com uses a birthdate check ,but Larry has added on the idea of having someone type their name into the signature block....

His system uses a birthday to verify age - hence, an age verification system. *He* even calls it an age verification script:
Quote:

I don't know what my age verification script (www.birthdateverifier) has to do with the discussion, but for the record, I have not threatened anyone with any infringement claims relating to that invention. This is just something that I let my clients use free of charge.
His patent might only be pending, but he has already sent out letters informing at least one person with an age-verification script that they are probably infringing on his "patent". Not his "pending patent".
I don't know if he's allowed to do that without the patent actually being granted, but he's doing it. Maybe he's just *really* anxious to get those extra licensing fees rolling in from the people he's supposed to be the white knight for.

In the quote above he claims he hasn't sent out letters; Squirtit has posted emails proving the opposite:
Quote:

This was sent to me by Larry Walters on 9/15/2003

"When did you release it? It may infringe on my patent, but we can work something out if it does. Can I see a link to where it appears?

Larry"

Part of another email that same day:

"If you show me where to find it, I can give you my thoughts on whether it is infringing on my patent rights."

I do have a copy of all of the emails if there is any question as to the validity of my statements.

As you can see he refers to it as his "patent", not his "pending patent", and that he also calls it an "age verification script".

Yes, i am aware of the emails and the discussions between Squirt and Larry.. and i was just clarifying that his patent has not been approved, and that what he said in his email was wrong to Squirt...

I also realize that Larry uses the word "age verification", but again, it's not accurate, so rather than perpetuate someone's words that were used incorrectly, I wanted to set the record straight.

True age verification requires either a driver's license or SSN.

BTW...excellent writeup you did on SightSound and USA Video!

When did Larry Walters apply for patent for his BirthDateVerifier™??

I searched the patent database, and couldn't find anything related to this. I also searched the trademark database, and didn't see an application for BirthDateVerifier either.

We used something very similar back in early 1997 on a few of our websites. My attorney put the verbage together for us, and we had both the pull down birthdate fields, and the "digital signature". You can still see it using the "WayBackMachine".

I know that we weren't the only ones doing it, I remember a number of sites doing similar things when the first CDA came around.

PureEdge Solutions Inc. of Victoria BC also employed a very similar system for it's clients. PureEdge is a leader in Digital Signature systems, and do have patents pending in that area. (My old technical manager, "Glitch", ended up as the VP of Programming for them, so I heard all about it)

There has been a lot of talk of "Prior Art" with the Acacia case. There seems to be a lot of Prior Art related to Walters system.

Brandon if that's the case I apologize, I figured using words right out of his mouth would be accurate. I should've known better, seeing that he lied right there claiming he hadn't sent out emails when obviously he had; so why would he be truthful about the other stuff. Is it not the art of lawyers to weave perception? :)

Thanks on the compliment on usvo. Just wish SightSound had their site working so I could get more info about them. Then again maybe it's a good sign that it's down, hehe.

I dunno Danny, maybe we could make a new thread and call him over here to get some more detailed info on it.
That's more Gonzo's forte, though :awinky:

Note to someone with the keys to the board: Damn I hate that default smile for the common ascii wink ; + )
It looks more like someone going "pfft" or growling or something. Could we change the default to the "awinky" smiley please?

1) My guess is over the summer is when the application was filed

2) Great post! keep your website in the wayback machine a secrect... patents can be amended to work around prior art so that it's no longer prior art.

Gonzo I haven't even bothered to read it. I don't consider Luke to be any type of "reporter", he's just a shit-stirring gossiper with an outlet to publish his drivel.
