HAHA I agree with you Evil Chris.

Meni - partying, drugs, getting naked are all fine... they do not bother me. It is destroying other peoples property that bothers me. Pissing on a boat ( inside on carpet) you do not own on purpose is just destructive. I doubt Easton would like it if we went to his house and peed on his sofa!

sarah_webinc 08-06-2003 03:28 PM

in addition to my distance and financial restraintsm part of the reason I have never made a huge effort to go to a convention is all the wild parties I hear about. I've never been much of a wild party type. Love a good time but not getting off my head ..especially with people I am suppose to be dealing with on a professional level.

It is good to hear that pleanty of networking can be done away from the wild parties. Makes me feel a bit more comfortable, should I see myself at one anytime in the near future.

Sarah, you can hang out with me - I didn't even realize all that went on at the Topbucks party until I read it on the boards! :P

ulfie 08-06-2003 04:00 PM

I would be the first to admit that I drink a lot of beer at these shows. I also get things done though while I'm there. I met a lot of new people again at this show so it was worthwhile going to it. Some of the things that happen are just over the line for my tastes. Damaging property is not cool. If you can't handle your drugs or alcohol get into a program. Just my opinion, it's worth what you paid for it.

Fay,

What about if we all did a different type of cybernet sometime. Does a cruise sound good, stupid?? I am sure we could get a few hundred people to go. say a 5-7 day cruise?? There is gaming and drinking for those who wish to do so.

or mabey 1 week in mexico or something. just something different. I love going to Vegas, but I also very much enjoy Dokk's week in Jamaica..

A cruise would be GREAT.....with a selected guest list. :P Ditto with the other suggestions. :awinky:

Per GFY, there was also stuff thrown off a balcony in an attempt to break the glass - and it worked. And someone else reported a couple thrown out of their room.

I wonder if the Westin wants us back. :(

Meni 08-06-2003 04:19 PM

Well I guess peeing on the carpet was too trashy

sounds like a plan...I've always been older before time..guess that might have something to do with marrying someone 18 years older than me.

VooMan 08-06-2003 04:22 PM

I thought I was the only one who wasn't a wild partier. haha

Unfortunately I spent most of this trip working in my hotel room (thank God for the high speed internet access), and I missed a few very nice dinner invitations with people I really wanted to spend time with. I did manage to get to the ARS party, and I always like that (along with Gameworks) because it is low key and a guaranteed nice time. It was funny, I remember going up to Marc the day after and thanking him for a great party. I felt like such a dork, but that is truly how I felt... Good conversation with good people is what I enjoy. :okthumb:

As for all the craziness, you can certainly avoid all that and get things done while still enjoying the show. :)

sarah_webinc 08-06-2003 04:22 PM

atleast you can make someone walk the plank on a cruise

FYI, people ask me all the time why we no longer sponsor parties. Two reasons.

#1 Better to do small affairs and take people to private dinners. In Miami, we did 3 dinners for 8-10 people. Anymore than that and it can be hard to talk biz.

#2 Liability issues abound.

Brad,

You've reached a point where not going to a show is seen as a sign of success rather than failure. You've done a good job on the boards of cultivating that point.[/b][/quote]
Colin, thanks! But I get jealous when I hear that Mike, Billy, KC, Chris, and Toolz were all hanging out without me! Thats alot of man loving without me!

BradShaw 08-06-2003 04:49 PM

Webmaster cruise long ago was very nice. Maybe an invitation only affair.

Curaco is nice and very well put on, but too many people go there for the drugs and brothels. I recall they had buses to get around on last year, and people were smoking weed on them openly.

MikeW 08-06-2003 04:50 PM

The past 2 shows that I've attended I went to one 'sponsored' party, usually on the first day. After that, I just met with clients, friends and associates, had small dinners and then went out later to private clubs, etc. I hate being stuck in a crowd full of people that I don't know and or can't stand to begin with .... especially when the guy/girl ratio is about 1000:1

:awinky:

The wild party atmosphere will not go away... there is a lot of the younger crowd in this business, and there concept of a convention is 'wild and crazy'.. so be it... I was young once.. I think....

I have no problem with what people choose to do on their own, god knows I've done enough abusive things to my mind and body over the year, and would by hypocricial of me to condem others for doing the same...

The thing is.. A LOT of people want and atmosphere thats quieter, and more condusive with catching up with friends, exchanging ideas, and cutting deals... frankly, there are a lot of the 'older crowd' that just flat out will not deal with people indulging in the craziness.... maybe to the detrement of both groups, but its a simple fact.

Peaches.. can I hang out with you too... ;-) We gotta do dinner in Jan..

Cool! I've missed you over the past several shows. :(

SykkBoy 08-06-2003 05:28 PM

So I should probably drop the blood drinking/ritual sacrifice party I was planning at Webmaster Summit? I wouldn't want to appear trashy or classless :(

scott 08-06-2003 05:42 PM

I also attended this exact party and was front row for that piss drinking display, that was just trashy and nasty, but some of these girls were actualy really classy, and were there just to represent there companies in a tasteful manner, but the piss drinker, that would make me label for the most part the trip as trashy, but to each there own.
Anyone get any pics of my inflatable penises, those things got some major mileage there. was just wondering if they made it to any websites.

nlphoto 08-06-2003 05:58 PM

If I remember from that first party in Rick YNot's room, the only trashing that occured was someone sitting on a glass table and breaking it...

:awinky:

sextoyking 08-06-2003 06:03 PM

Good Points Mikew,peaches,brad.

thanks

Todd

That's got to be the biggest penis I've ever seen.
No wonder it's flaming.

I'm with you guys - I like it quieter and if there's partying going on, a small group is way better than a hundred people (most of whom you don't know). Like 8-10 folks get together and party, do the club rounds, whatever. It still lets you have fun but you're also in a more 'protected' atomosphere where if you're female you'll know someone's got your back, but also if you make an ass of yourself it's less likely to be plastered all over the biz boards.

The only time I like to be with a hundred folks I don't know is when we're all out on a dance floor and the lights are going crazy, the bass is pounding in your chest, and the only thing you can think about is the music :awinky:

With me, it varies, I'm just as comfortable in a noisy, loud music, whole bunch of hellraising going on type party as I am a nice, quiet dinner party with formal wear.

I don't expect to get "business" done at a loud party anymore than I expect to get drunk, fuck the waitress and spill my drinks all over at a nice dinner or formal party........

A convention hotel is used to throwing people out during shows/expos, so one or two such situations in the course of a show will only be a big deal if they are looking for a reason to avoid rescheduling a group.

They same cannot be said for the kind of moronic behavior like dropping shit onto a skylight.

I am looking forward to finding the old foggies group in January - my drinking/drugging days are behind me, but I can get pretty wild long about the 2nd double espresso ... :D

Brad I think that is one reason why the player hater balls are so good, a small group that make the night one to remember.

Humm... PHB III ???

Who will be sponsors in January ??

:bwave:
you can bank on it!

i may even show up this time :D

the last show i attended, (august last year) I had a breakfast meeting all 3 mornings and was in bed by 2am every night (and home by 4 :P )

very tame show, i don't remember attending any 'parties', but we had lots of nice 'dinner parties' at serge's - that's my ideal show - good food, good wine (or soda water) and family for good company.

sounds like i didn't miss much this show!!

Colin, I remember those girls....

http://hirise.biz/shows/old/014.jpg

There was a little nudity and such, but it was very tame. Especially by todays standards.

Thing is, I love naked chicks, and live sex shows and things do not bother me as well. The problem is doing this in front of large groups of drunk webmasters, this causes the problems.... at least part of them.

hahahahahhaha,
in those days we had less nudity and...much more money!

nowadays the poor bastards substitute the lack of REAL money by abundance of pussy...

to each it's own

uh-uh-uh!

Seems we're getting more people who wanna go to the conventions to get high on their own supply. They aren't there for business, they're there to party and for the occasional cheap thrill. I chuckle everytime I see pics from convention sex shows or photoshoots and you see guys stacked 4 deep holding their cameras over each other trying to get that shot of the action.

It's kinda sad that they're in this industry and are that desperate to get a pic of some nekkid ass....

We had help with the wine. The ACHDebit guys were there as well. One of the best things I ever learned from Serge was to sit in the lobby. Everyone comes through eventually and if you have booze they are likely to stop and talk to you. :D

SykkBoy 08-06-2003 09:58 PM

Ah, but did you have condoms and STD tests?

Hell Puppy 08-06-2003 10:09 PM

I think everyone needs to learn to be a bit more conscious of where they are. And that goes both ways.

Based on the ads for the parties, I think it should be no surprise to find nudity and even sex in some of them. Now pissing is a new one, not my scene I woulda been out there. But that's really what everyone should do, exercise the same freedoms we hope users do, if you dont like it, dont look at it or leave.

But again, discretion, know where you are. If you're in rented space with controlled access, you can get wild. If in a more public location, like the beach, use your head. Now drugs are another story, do what you want in your room, but keep it off the premises at the parties, especially anything stronger than weed.

And one of my alltime pet peeves is people who wear their "industry" clothes outside with the normals, to the mall or dinner or whatever. We may perceive ourselves as business people who just happened to have sexy products. Make no mistake about the rest of the world though, they view us as nasty pornographers who they think might chases their children down the streets with a dildo in one hand and an industrial sized bottle of wet lube in the other.

Evil Chris 08-06-2003 11:08 PM

I see from reading multiple threads on multiple boards today and yesterday that there was no need for me to attend this most recent internext.

Anyone new wanna do some business? ICQ 342827
Cheers. :awinky:

I have got a few emails about the PHB III and
I think I may have talked Mike into it so I will
be in touch !!

The PHB is one of the best parties that is offered at
the show, it's got great people, great food and you
know what.. a little business does get done at it
also !

More to follow as I get the info !

Peaches 08-07-2003 12:11 AM

If we can convince Forest to be quiet in a restaurant, there's no excuse for anyone else causing scenes out in public. B)
