My picks:

Akira
Sexy Beast
Western World
The Ultimate Warrior - w/ Yul Brynner
The Warriors
Seven Samurai
5 Deadly Venoms
The Devil's Brigade
Princess Bride

I've got more, but that's enough.

Before Nick comes on and rips my picks, some of them aren't consider the best movies, in fact, alot of them suck. When I watched them, they imparted something special.

oh man...
The Warriors,
forgot about that one.....finally came out on DVD a few months ago

Torone 01-28-2003 07:35 PM

Well, they haven't made my favorite series of books (The Lensman books) into movies yet, so...

Almost any John Wayne movie; but I'm particularly fond of 'Big Jake' and 'McClintock'

All of the Annette and Frankie movies.

The best movie of all time was Caddyshack, anyone that disagrees with me is an idiot. :D

Excalibur - don't know who the hell played in it.

one of hubby's fave films.

Directed by John Boorman

The stand out performance for us is Nicol Williamson as Merlin. He is so wonderful in that. However, Helen Miren and Patrick Stewart both pop up as well.

Not counting all the requisite favorites like Star Wars, Matrix, Godfather, Scarface, etc..

Wow...lots of great lists. Seeing as we've watched PG and G movies for a good part of the past 10 years or so with the kids - I don't have many new movies to add to the list that aren't kid-approved. lol

Some that popped into my head immediately...

The Sixth Sense
Artificial Intelligence (A.I.)
Lord of the Rings (I & II)
Signs
The Matrix
Men in Black (I & II)
Frequency

Older flicks that I've recently subjected my kids to....

Gone With the Wind
Sound of Music
Kiss Me Goodbye
Phenomenon
Footloose
Poltergeist
E.T.
Star Wars (the originals)
To Kill a Mockingbird

Thanks to NetFlix we've been watching some oldies lately....I am a movie fanatic - I'll watch any genre....foreign films, indies, oldies, classics, musicals, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, drama, comedy...it doesn't matter. I could watch them 24/7 and never get tired - lol

Great topic - you guys gave me some great ideas for some new ones to rent and try out. :okthumb:

HoneyBlond 01-29-2003 03:35 AM

Yeah, he made you Libs crazy, didn't he?
Actually, I watched only a few of Reagan's movies. I've always preferred Westerns and sci-fi (with a few like the Annette and Frankie movies thrown in to even the mix).

Gag a maggot? Anyone who would say something like that about Annette has to have something dreadfully wrong upstairs...

I see someone mentioned The Outlaw Josey Wales. That was a damned good movie, too.

ShannonRush 01-29-2003 08:12 AM

Funny that Doug and I created these lists Saturday on our long drive through Florida.

You've got Mail - All time favorite - as Doug says...I'm a sap
His Gal Friday - Hepburn/Tracey - 'nuff said
Tombraider - I want to be Lara Croft when I grow up
Matrix -
The Princess Bride - Best Lines
Arthur _ Very best one liners
The story of O - DV will understand this one
CornHole Patrol....oops!

And yes...Emmet Otters Jugband Christmas is a must in this house every Christmas...at least 10 times.

sarah_webinc 01-29-2003 08:35 AM

i can't belive I blanked out my total love for John Hughes pre-home alone days. Everything from The Brat pack stuff to Ferris to Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
